How it works

Converto's video compressor re-encodes your video with a lower bitrate and, if needed, a smaller frame size, using an FFmpeg build that runs inside your browser via WebAssembly. You control the compression level, so you can shrink a large MP4, MOV, MKV, AVI or WebM file down for email, messaging apps, or upload limits — without a server ever seeing your video.

Frequently asked questions

How much smaller will my video get after compression?

It depends on the source video and the compression level you pick — 'Strong compression' cuts file size the most, 'Balanced' is a good default, and 'Minimal compression' keeps quality closest to the original with a smaller size reduction.

Does the video compressor reduce the video resolution?

If the video is wider than 1280 pixels, it's scaled down automatically to keep file size and processing time reasonable; smaller videos keep their original resolution.

Is it safe to compress private or sensitive videos here?

Yes — compression happens entirely on your device using WebAssembly, so your video is never uploaded to a server.
